About this canvas

Crane circle family crest is printed on beautiful gauze silk. Gauze weaving creates amazing shades on this charming small canvas.

Period/Story

Explanation and meaning of pattern and colors

The Tsurumaru crest is the sacred crest of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Kamakura. The origin of the crest is said to be the release of 1,000 cranes by shogun Minamoto-no-Yoritomo in celebration of his unification of Japan.

As the saying goes, "A crane lives for a thousand years, a tortoise for ten thousand years," and the crane, a symbol of longevity, spreads its wings in this rounded crest. Some samurai families used the crane crest as their family crest to signify prosperity of the family, and it was famously used by the Mori family, including Ranmaru Mori, who served to famous Nobunaga Oda.

Description of fabric characteristics

The transparency of "ro" - gauze silk, creates a very beautiful nuance of light and shadow. Used for summer kimonos and obis, "ro" is a weave with a characteristic open texture that looks like horizontal stripes. This kimono was dyed in black and tailored with a crest, so it was worn as formal summer attire.

Decoration Advice

The canvas can be displayed on a table, wall, etc. You will need tacks or nails to hang it on the wall. Because it is light, you can hang it with two ordinary thumbtacks. You can also lean it against an easel. Perfect for redecorating your room, as a housewarming gift, as a present, or as a souvenir for your loved ones! The product will be carefully wrapped and sent, so it can be used as a gift on the go.

All the works are made from real kimonos, antiques and vintages.
