About this canvas
Layered clouds and sea patterns adorn this canvas, with an obi fabric as the base and a transparent kimono hakkake (lining) fabric overlay, creating the effect of clouds gently drifting over the sea.
Period / Story
Both kimono and obi used in this canvas originate from the late Showa period (1960-80ies).
Explanation and meaning of pattern and colors
The kimono's base is crafted from an obi, where the rising clouds are skillfully represented through variations in the weave's shading. Clouds, constantly shifting in shape and color as they form and dissipate, have historically captivated people's interest, seen as sign of big events.
The fabric on the upper layer belonged to kimono lining - hakkake. Its exquisite blue gradation symbolizes the sea.
Together, these two layers of fabric create the illusion of clouds adrift upon the sea, giving a captivating depth and dimension to the canvas.
Characteristics of the fabric
The obi beneath is an obi featuring a festive design of clouds woven with gold thread against a beige background. The splendid interplay of gold and blue within this design imparts a contemporary and stylish ambiance.
Decoration Advice
Canvas can be displayed on a table, wall, etc. Hanging on a wall requires hooks, tacks or nails. It can also be displayed propped up on an easel. Ideal for a room makeover, housewarming gift, present, or souvenir for a loved one.
